making sense out a scentless life

Here we are again! It’s the official day to remember that there are millions of people around the world that don’t have the ability to smell. Like me!

It’s been 13 years now. Wow! I don’t even know where the time went. What I do know is that I have definitely grown over the years. As I’ve mentioned before, having anosmia can be an alienating experience.  But like I said last year, writing about life with anosmia has made it a little easier to deal with. Thanks to websites like Anosmia Awareness, more research on anosmia, and social media, more of us anosmics are discovering that there’s a whole population of us trying to find out what the heck we’re experiencing, kind of why, and someone to relate to.

I even made a new friend during this wonderful blogging journey who understands this anosmatic life of mine. Her name is Yazmin and she’s a content creator at Girl Who Can’t Smell. Last year, I did a two-part interview with her. Yazmin has congenital anosmia, which means she has no recollection of being able to smell. I have acquired, which means I lost it. Despite our difference, we have some things in common and actually made a video in honor of Anosmia Awareness Day.
